#29 Seeing through another person’s eyes
Meet beautiful places in Zurich, right outside my doorstep
Happy new year to you. I trust this Yuanfen story finds you. May 2023 bring you and all of us peace, love, and happiness. All around the world.
The last few weeks back in Switzerland were full of old and new things for me.
Of known and unknown places, thoughts, and ideas.
Lots of readjusting and rewiring.
Thanks to my friends and my family had I the chance to create beautiful Yuanfen moments on my doorstep.
No need to travel to the Atacama desert or the mountains of Papua.
Through their visits from far and close, I was able to see beauty.
Of my neighborhood, my city, and my country.
In a totally new light.
My parents
During my first weekend back in Switzerland, my parents came to visit me in Zurich.
My father helped me to sort my travel pictures (still highly work in progress).
So much data, so many files, folders, and gigabytes.
For a break, we left my home and had a yummy Momos lunch at Tibetasia and a coffee at MAME.
Less than five minutes walk, yet a feeling of exploring something new arose. A pleasant feeling. Then we went back to work.
On Saturday my mother and my cousin came to visit.
We went to my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant Achi’ and had 3 hours of wellness at Stadtbad.
No need to travel to Istanbul to experience a beautiful Hammam experience.
My Yoga Soulmate
A week before Christmas, Anavi and Santiago from Mexico visited us.
Anavi and I met at the Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica.
She is like a younger sister to me.
On their first day, we used the lunch break to pick up a fresh Christmas tree at the Forstgarten Albisgüetli and had a winter wonderland walk at Allmend.
No need to travel to the mountains for that.
On Saturday we had a must-have Swiss sausage dinner at Sternengrill, followed by an incredible concert by the Zürcher Sängerknaben (a first!), a Glühwein, and a nightcap at the cozy Old Crow Bar.
Our Christmas guests
For Christmas, Yetty and Ling visited us from Amsterdam.
Yetty and my husband Philipp shared a shoebox-sized apartment during their exchange semester in Hong Kong ten years ago.
We visited them for their wedding in Melbourne, shortly before they moved to Europe.
This time, they spent the Christmas days with us.
We shared a tasty Swiss dinner in Wilderswil close to Interlaken and sent them up to Jungfraujoch before we met in Schaffhausen for a few days of family time.
After their leisurely walk to the Freitag flagship store on their last day in Zurich, we had a last lunch at Lilly’s.
Fast, tasty, and enough food for another left-over meal the next day.
We had a last digestion walk along the Limmat river. The busy Zurich riviera in summer, such a peaceful place in winter.
I closed the door as they left for the airport and felt like arriving back home after traveling abroad.
And realized that thanks to my friends and my family, I just rediscovered so many different places.
Right outside my doorstep.
Thank you all for your visits.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see my own home with fresh eyes!
…and best of all, I cannot wait to explore the world with my little godchild that was born last month. A new person to share all this and much more with. Exploring the world through children’s eyes. Currently from a frog perspective. <3
